LITURGY OF THE WORD - CYCLE A 2022-2023

National Catholics are exposed to the Word of God through the Catechism and the proclamation of the readings during the Mass. From the earliest days of the Church the Word of God was shared  among the faithful. In the book of Acts, the Mass is described, including the “Liturgy of the Word” and the “Liturgy of the Bread”:
 

“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the
communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. “  Acts 2:42

That tradition is continued today as the Word of God is proclaimed at every Mass and paraliturgical service. The New Testament Gospels are proclaimed on Sundays over a 3 year cycle. We are now hearing Cycle A where the Gospel of Matthew is emphasized along with the Epistles of 1 Corinthians 1-4, Romans, Philippians and 1 Thessalonians.
