CLOSING HYMN             “Another Year is Dawning”            Song 84

“So as not to spend what remains of one’s life in the flesh on human desires, but on the will of God.”  1 Peter 4:2

Opening Hymn:  “New Year Comes Flying”

Hymnal #55

New Year comes flying, Who is this lying in the hay?

This is the Lordling, praise Him, adore Him on the earth.

Here lies the Infant much like a lambkin.  Where O where?

In Beth’lem City, Hurry go quickly, find Him there.

How shall we find Him?  How shall we know our Jesus Lord?

In humble wrappings, not in rich velvet, see Him there.

Angels are playing, gratefully singing.  What O what?

//Glory and praises throughout the ages, to the Child. //

Closing Hymn:  “Another Year is Dawning”

 Hymnal 84

Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
In working or in waiting, another year with Thee.
Another year of leaning, upon Thy loving breast,
Another year of trusting, of quiet happy rest.

Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace,
Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face;
Another year of progress, another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.

Another year of service, of witness for Thy love,
Another year of training for holier work above.
Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be.
On earth, or else in heaven, another year for Thee.

   A Recipe for a Happy New Year. . . . .. . .Anonymous

    Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.

    Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.

New Year Prayer

Dear Lord, please give me…

    A few friends who understand me and remain my friends;

    A work to do which has real value,

        without which the world would be the poorer;

    A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed;

    An understanding heart;

    A sense of humor;

    Time for quiet, silent meditation;

    A feeling of the presence of God;

    The patience to wait for the coming of these things,

    With the wisdom to recognize them when they come. Amen.

Christmas Thank You and Reflections

The celebration of Christ’s birth has been commemorated but the celebration of Christ’s life continues.  As we gathered to acknowledge the birth of our Lord, have we experienced the rebirth of the Lord within our lives?  This is the gift that Jesus requests from us and what we should bring to Him, ourselves.  As we begin a New Year, let us make a firm resolution to allow Christ to be first in our lives and in our homes over all else.

There are so many people to thank in the preparation for our Christmas celebration and to name them all would be impossible without omitting someone, so I want to thank all with a general Thank-You!  To the SAMBS for the Wigilia and those who participated during the Wigilia program; to the YMSR, parishioners and parish friends who decorated the Church facilities inside and out setting up the Nativities, Trees, Wreaths, Flowers and Candelabras, making our Worship Center beautiful; to those who donated to the purchases of the flowers; to the Annunciation Bell and Frederic Chopin Choirs for their many hours of rehearsals to present inspirational music on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; the children who participated in the Christ Candle Lighting and Nativity Procession along with the altar servers and sacristans, our ushers and Lectors, so that the liturgical rubrics would be properly ministered; to the many who sent wonderful Christmas cards and gifts to Father and his family; again, if I missed anything, I apologize and I pray you all to receive the choicest blessings that our Lord gives to you and yours as we together build His Church working our way towards His plan for salvation.

This year the Advent wreath candles and the Christ Candle were donated by Martha Krusienski in memory of her husband, Chester Krusienski.

Scripture Discussion - Mary, Mother of GodSolemnity-Circumcision of the Lord

First Reading: Numbers 6:22-27
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 67

Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7
Gospel: Luke 2:16-21

Key Verse:  When eight days were completed for His circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given Him by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Readings:  God speaks to Moses instructing him to have Aaron and the Israelites pray that they may answer their prayers with blessings. Paul tells the Galatians that God sent Jesus, His Son, born of Mary to deliver all from the bondage of sin and slavery of the law.  By God’s choice we are heirs to heaven.  And Luke reminds us that when the shepherds came to Bethlehem, they began to understand the message of the angels.  Mary prayed about the great event and Jesus received His name according to the Jewish ritual of circumcision.

Reflection: Our part in the Church's celebration today is this: our faces must turn toward the shining face of God that we can detect everywhere on this first day of the New Year.  Our hearts must be open to God's will as Mary's was. The shining light of this season must flame in our hearts as we, like Mary, treasure the mystery of God's salvation in the quiet of our hearts.

Praying:  Lord, how can I as an individual and as a member of this parish carry forward God's salvation?  May my prayers have a meditative prayer in Your life and help me make resolutions that truly helps me to become a true heir to Your kingdom and an active member of your Church giving without any reservations my time, talents, and treasure to your Glory here on earth.
