CLOSING HYMN   “They’ll Know We are Christians By our Love”      Bulletin

“This is how all will know that you are My disciples,

if you have love for one another.”

                                                   John 13:35

Opening Hymn: PNCC Hymn of Faith

To Thee we come before our God

Before Thine altar, Father.

Thou knowest best our yearning hearts

This supplication answer.

Lift up from want Thy people, Lord,

Bless us O God, O Father, bless our toil.

Under Thy Cross we stand prepared,

To serve Thee with devotion,

Be it with sweat of blood or tears,

Or humble resignation.

For we, Thy people are, O Lord,

Save us O God, O Father, bless our toil!

Closing Hymn:  “They will know We are Christians by our Love”

Refrain: And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love

Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

We are one in the spirit; we are one in the Lord

We are one in the spirit; we are one in the Lord

And we pray that our unity may one day be restored.

Refrain:

We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand

We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand

And together, we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.

Refrain:

We will work with each other; we will work side by side

We will work with each other; we will work side by side

And we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride.

Refrain:

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come

And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son

And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.

Refrain:

Solemnity of Brotherly Love-Do I really love my Neighbor?

Today we celebrate a unique solemnity in our Church, the Feast of Brotherly Love. We know the commandments to love God and to love neighbor, but do we practice this knowledge in our daily living?  Loving God is keeping holy the Sabbath Day. Other than work schedules, there are no excuses from not keeping Holy the Sabbath. Excuses are many but not always valid when it comes to loving God. Then the other commandments focus on the interaction we have with those around us. We have become a society of blaming others for any faults or problem that may occur in our life and not taking responsibility for our actions words, and deeds ourselves. We have become good finger pointers. St. John reminds us that only the grace of God’s love can be received if we love each other.  If a man says he loves God and hates his brother, St. John plainly calls him a liar.  We do not like being called a liar, but in all reality it is the truth when we disobey the commandments. We are reminded by the Apostle John that we can only love God if we love our fellow human being.

This should stop us and make us think.  There are many family members and people that we know, but somehow we find it hard to embrace them with our love.  There may have been hurtful actions or words exchanged.  We find it very hard to love, but that is what we must do.  Just as Jesus loved and forgave us by taking our faults, ours sinful nature on the cross, we must lift high the cross to love and forgive others.  That is the only way the grace of God can come upon us.  We do not receive His grace if we do not learn to love and forgive; we would be lying to ourselves as being faithful disciples of Jesus.
