kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion

endures through all generations.”

                                                       Daniel 3:10

Opening Hymn:  “Morning Hymn”

Lord this morn we raise our voices

As the world in song rejoices

All the works of Thy creation

                           Join to sing Thy admiration

Lord to us Thou has been gracious,

O the blessings Thou didst give us

Now we can not help but praise Thee

For the gifts of love and mercy.

Through the night Thou did protect us

From the dangers that beset us

That we might arise to praise Thee

And to sing Thy lasting glory.

Closing Hymn:  “Turn Your Eyes to Jesus”

Turn your eyes to Jesus, look to heav’n above

Seek his many graces and his wond’rous love.

//How the pow’rs of nature, kneel before his throne

And in hymns of splendor, worship him alone//.

Sing my soul in gladness, sing in rapt’ rous joy

With the heav’nly forces, songs of praise employ.

//For his many graces, ever thankful be,

For the Lord most precious now would come to thee//.

Theme:  “Do I do as I say?”

As we approach the end of the liturgical year; the themes of the Holy Masses speak about the coming of the Lord.  The Lord will come to rule the earth with justice and all the earth will sing praise to God-the sea resounds with delight, the rivers clap their hands, the mountains shout with joy.  Trumpets, horns and harp join in melodious song.

The prophet Malachi did not see the Day of the Lord in such glowing phrases.  His picture was one of a blazing oven setting all the evildoers afire in God’s wrath.  Yet for those who revered God, there was hope: “the sons of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.”

Paul admonished those who were idle as they waited Christ’s return.  He urged them to follow his own example of diligent work as he proclaimed the gospel.

Jesus warns us not to waste time in useless speculation of the ends of times.  Nor must we be misled by those claiming to be the Messiah, falsely promising peace.  War, insurrections and conflicts will be a part of every generation.  Dissensions will exist even within families and neighborhoods.  But Jesus encourages us to have faith.  By patient endurance, we will be saved.

This is something that we must believe and do as we continue our earthly pilgrimage.  Faith is the key to complete all that Jesus challenged us to continue.  Our response is to do His will.  Holy Spirit guide us each day.

Thanksgiving Project

Each week, students of the SOCL are asked to

bring one of the following items:  cereal, peanut

butter, jelly, ketchup or mayonnaise to class.

Prior to thanksgiving, these items will be given

to the Intersection in McKeesport.  The Intersection

provides a free meal each day to the poor and homeless.

We may not have the homeless sitting on our doorsteps, but in our local community, there are many who need our help.  If parishioners would like to help our students, please bring these items to Church with you to Mass and place in the designated SOCL Food Box in the hall.

     Thirty-Third Sunday

        Ordinary Time

     Malachi 3:19-20a

     Psalm 98

     2 Thessalonians 3:7-12

     Luke 21:5-19

KEY VERSE: "The days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down" (v 6).

READING: Jesus told his disciples that the magnificent Temple in Jerusalem would one day be reduced to rubble. It was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. The Temple was a sign of God's presence on earth. Israel believed that the desecration of the Temple would herald the end of the age (Dn 9:24-27). Jesus warned his followers not to be misled by false messiahs, wars and natural disasters as proof that the time had come for his return. These events were just birth pangs of suffering that would occur in every age. Jesus' disciples must expect to share in his passion. While they would be persecuted by religious and political leaders and even members of their own families, they need not be concerned as to how they would defend themselves. They must trust in Jesus' divine presence as they faithfully witnessed to the gospel.

REFLECTING: Do I pray for all who are persecuted for their faith today?

PRAYING: Lord Jesus, give me confidence when I face my adversaries.
