“He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor

will himself also call and not be heard.”

 Proverbs 21:13

Opening Hymn: “O Christ the Great Foundation?”

O Christ the great foundation On which Your people stand

To preach Your true salvation in ev’ry age and land

Pour out Your Holy Spirit to make us strong and pure

To keep the faith unbroken as long as worlds endure.

Baptized in one confession, one Church in all the earth

We bear our Lord’s impression the sign of second birth

One holy people gathered in love beyond our own

By grace we were invited by grace we make you known.

This is the moment glorious when he who once was dead

Shall lead His Church victorious their champion and their head

The Lord of all creation His heav’nly kingdom brings

The final consummation the glory of all things.

Closing Hymn:  “This Day God Gives Me”

This day God gives me, strength of high heaven

Sun and moon shining, flame in my hearth

Flash of lightning, wind in its swiftness

Deeps of the ocean, firmness on earth.

This day God sends me, strength as my guardian

Might to uphold me, wisdom as guide.

Your eyes are watchful. Your ears are list’ning

Your lips are speaking, friend at my side.

God’s way is my way; God’s shield is round me,

God’s host defends me, saving from ill

Angels of heaven, drive from me always

All that would harm me stand by me still.

Theme:  Spojnia Sunday

On the fourth Sunday of September, the Polish National Union of America and the Polish National Catholic Church jointly celebrate Spojnia Sunday. Spojnia Sunday is a unique feast day in the calendar of the Church, a day on which all Polish National Catholic Church members can reflect upon the spiritual and material contribution that the Polish National Union of America provides to the members of the Church.

Without your support of Polish National Union of America insurance and annuity products, the Polish National Union of America's financial support of the Polish National Catholic Church would not be possible. The Polish National Union of America offers many competitive insurance products for any financial need or personal lifestyle. The ultimate goal of the Polish National Union of America is to have each and every Polish National Catholic Church member consider the Polish National Union of America first when purchasing life insurance or annuities.

If you would like to know more about how the Polish National Union of America and Polish National Catholic Church work together to touch lives, check out the PNU website homepage, call the Polish National Union of America at 1-800-724-6352 or talk with our Branch Secretary, Henrietta Kleckner. Brochures can be found in the information rack located in the church vestibule with pamphlets and materials concerning the products and services offered by the PNU.

   ORDINARY TIME

      Amos 6:1a, 4-7

      Psalm 146

      1Timothy 6:11-16

      Luke 16:19-31

KEY VERSE: "If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead" (v 31).

READING: Jesus addressed a parable to those who were rich in material goods yet ignored the needs of the poor. In the story, a wealthy man feasted in luxury while Lazarus, a poor man, was outside his house, lying in agony, suffering from disease and starvation. When the two men died, their fortunes were reversed. Lazarus was taken to the "bosom of Abraham" (v 22) where the just awaited resurrection, while the rich man ended up in torment in the netherworld (Hebrew, she'ol, the underworld which received the dead). The rich man pleaded with Abraham to send someone to warn his family lest they ended up sharing a similar fate. Abraham said that if they did not listen to the scriptures ("Moses and the prophets") they would not believe anyone else, even if that person should rise from the dead (an image of Jesus' resurrection).

REFLECTING: Do I ignore the suffering people who are right at my doorstep?

PRAYING: Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the "Lazarus" in my life.
